SKIN CONDITIONS
ROSACEA
Rosacea is a common and considered a long-term skin condition. Mainly, it affects the face.
Symptoms include episodes of flushing, where the skin turns red for a short period, burning and stinging sensations, permanent redness, and spots (papules and pustules).
Rosacea is classed as a chronic condition because medicated treatments seem to only bring temporary improvement (if any). However, recent studies have proven that diet and lifestyle changes are the most effective ways of managing or even reversing rosacea.
ECZEMA
Eczema refers to a group of inflammatory skin conditions that cause itchiness, dry skin, rashes, scaly patches, blisters and skin infections. For lighter skin, eczema can present as red, inflamed skin. For darker skin tones, eczema is brown, purple, grey or ashen. Itchy, irritated and inflamed patches are the most common symptom of eczema.
For years, eczema was treated only as a skin condition. However, topical treatments with steroidal creams bring only short-term results. Today, health professionals notice a significant connection between disturbed gut health (such as food intolerance, celiac disease, disrupted gut microbiome and leaky gut) and eczema symptoms. Addressing gut health issues through the proper diet and lifestyle is the most effective way of managing eczema.
PSORIASIS
Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp.
Psoriasis is classed as a chronic skin disease with no cure. Patches can be painful, disturb sleep and make it hard to concentrate. The condition tends to go through cycles, flaring for a few weeks or months, then subsiding for a while. It is believed that some people have a genetic predisposition to developing psoriasis.
Medicated treatments help to manage symptoms (such as itchiness) but never bring long-term improvement. Like rosacea and eczema, psoriasis patients seem to respond best to diet and lifestyle improvements, which also target gut health.
